The Kamau Wairuri Foundation has delivered over 600 dignity kits for secondary school students in Kangema District, Murang’a County, over the last two months.
This initiative has been executed in response to the requests by the headteachers of various schools for the foundation to intervene. In particular, teachers have highlighted the plight of female students who are often unable to attend school during their menses.

The teachers noted that the Ministry of Education has not supplied the students with the sanitary towels which are crucial to the retention of students in school.
So far, the foundation has delivered the dignity kits to Rwathia, Kihoya and Gitugu mixed secondary schools. Both boys and girls received dental hygiene products, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Additionally, all the girls were presented with sanitary pads.
Gerald Gaituri, an official of the foundation, said that the foundation’s Dignified Learning Program (DLP), has been of much help to hundreds of the students.
Gaituri said during a visit in the schools, they met the leadership who highlighted the challenges the learners encounter.
“The Kamau Wairuri Foundation is determined to work in partnership with communities in Murang’a to help improve education standards,” said Gaituri.

Monicah Waiyego, a resident of Muguru location, said the hygiene initiative will help the female students to save them from missing lessons.
“We call upon well-wishers to assist many of the learners across the villages who are undergoing various challenges,” said Waiyego.
